Today’s episode is part 2 of a series all about setting up a virtual pentesting lab for about 500 bucks. Part 1 talked about getting the necessary hardware purchased and assembled. Today we walk about the network/storage configuration.

Network:

In my case, I used Ubiquiti gear to get my network prep done:

  • Create a DHCP server
  • Create an associated VLAN for the DHCP range
  • Followed this article to lock down the new network
  • Added the new VLAN to the port groups on the ESXi host

Storage:

Pretty straight forward – you just follow the wizards to add new storage, which will detect any hard drives you have installed. Then I recommend uploading some ISOs (like Kali, Ubuntu and Windows 10) to get started.
